Philippians 2:1-2: “Love & Unity”
INTRODUCTION TO OUR SERIES:

The Apostle Paul wrote the epistle (personal letter) (1:1) to the Philippian church, probably during his imprisonment in Rome. The letter was written from a heart of love and concern for the Philippians. Due to Paul’s imprisonment, he could not personally visit with the church so he sent this letter with Timothy to encourage them and bring back news of their condition to Paul. (2:19).
Some of the main divisions of the book include:
1. Introduction to the book: 1:1-2
2. Paul’s thankfulness for the Philippians: 1:3-11
3. News of Paul’s imprisonment and dedication: 1:12-26
4. Following Christ’s example is our duty: 1:27-2:18
5. Paul’s representatives and the need to treat them kindly: 2:19-30
6. Paul’s example of living a joyous life: 3:1-11

PROUD OF YOUR SELF-HATRED?
“Stop! Let me tell you what the Lord said to me last night.” —1 Samuel 15:16
Saul “erected a trophy in his own honor” (1 Sm 15:12), though he was little in his own esteem (1 Sm 15:17). People who are proud of themselves often hate themselves. Proud people act like gods, and of course they do a very poor imitation of God. So they hate themselves for failing. If they don’t repent, they lie to themselves and others about failing. Then they hate themselves for being phonies. Proud people try to compensate for their failures by doing more of their own thing, disobeying the Lord, and thereby failing some more. This makes them bigger failures and probably bigger phonies.
If they don’t repent, proud people come to hate themselves so much that they consider suicide and may even commit suicide, as Saul eventually did (1 Sm 31:4). The wages…

Praying The Psalms
While the Psalms have always been a part of my life, I began praying them in a consistent and personal way over 20 years ago.
I wrote about my story, the Psalms, and short poetry forms in my post at Curtis Dunlap’s site: Ellen Olinger – Three Questions. Three of my best haiku are in this post.
In early December 2009, Curtis Dunlap featured “Deeper Places,” which was published first in Time Of Singing (2003): Poets and Poems – Ellen Olinger.
Recently, I was blessed with another birthday. I am 62 now, by God’s grace. My 40th birthday was in the hospital, and my life had to change to be well again. This life has everything to do with the art that seems to bless others.
I rest in God’s plan and His mystery. When I was younger, I was able to give 20 years to special education.
